Panama

 General Information

One of the most important commitments made in Panama is the development of water quality monitoring capacity in water bodies, including coastal areas. The control of coastal water pollution resulting from untreated industrial and domestic discharges, as well as from agricultural pollution of rivers discharging into the sea, was established as one of the government's priorities and commitments.

A population sector that requires special attention in terms of water and sanitation is the indigenous rural sector. Cartí Sugdupu will be the first community in Panama to be displaced in a planned manner as a climate change adaptation measure. The GEF CReW+ project seeks to provide integral water and sanitation solutions to the relocation project, under an integral ecological vision and in coordination with the cultural values of the community.
