Grenada developed the National Water Policy in 2007. The policy embraces Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and it clearly states that the government is committed to the principles and processes of IWRM. The goal of the policy is to “provide a framework to maximize the contribution of the water sector to sustainable economic, social and environmental development in an efficient and equitable manner.”
The policy is currently under review. This provides an opportunity to review the process and update the policy incorporating new international, regional, and national agendas. Recently in 2017, the government completed the National Climate Change Policy, as well as the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan for Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. Similarly, the Grenada-Blue Growth Coastal Master Plan was prepared in 2016. Synergies with these policy instruments will be developed during the revision process of the National Water Policy.
The country will be giving priority attention to the design and adoption of measures to prevent and control the pollution of water resources and their supporting ecosystems.
