General Information
The new Master Plan for Water and Basic Sanitation in Colombia - Strategic Vision 2018-2030 - promotes an encompassing vision of the sector for the long run. It focuses on hydrological security and the integral development of communities, the environment, and the productive sectors. This national plan proposes well-defined actions to achieve the goals defined and provides a reference framework for the integration of the different regulatory and financial planning instruments; for instance, by promoting public-private partnerships for the execution of the plan and the operation of the system.
Furthermore, the National Planning Department (DNP) vouched for the “CONPES 4004: Circular economy in the management of drinking water and wastewater services”, a document to promote new technologies of wastewater treatment and reuse that is aiming to encourage the treatment and reuse of domestic wastewater in order to reduce pollution to water sources, decrease the environmental costs and foster the reuse of reclaimed water in agriculture and industrial processes.
