Saint Kitts and Nevis


 General Information

In Saint Kitts and Nevis, the National Environmental Action Plan of 1994 and the National Environmental Management Strategy of 2005 outline policies related to environmental management in the country. The ongoing development of the National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy gives momentum to the water sector as one of the eight priority areas for adaptation. The objective of the draft strategy in relation to water states that it aims "to providing a safe and reliable water supply for St. Kitts and Nevis and ensure efficient water use to build resilience to climate change".

Wastewater reuse is an area of opportunity since it has been indicated that most farmers are willing to reuse wastewater as long as it is safe to consume their production without any negative implications. Increasing their knowledge could impact positively the reuse practices in the country.

GEF CReW+ in Saint Kitts and Nevis

The project provides support for national activities in two components:

  • Component 1: Institutional, policy, legislative and regulatory reforms for Integrated Water and Wastewater Management (IWWM). 
  • Component 3: Provision of innovative small-scale, local, rural, peri-urban and community-based solutions for IWWM.
