General Information
Municipalities in Cuba have a Strategic Development Programme, which lines of action are coherent with national and global policies in environmental matters, and are aimed at supporting the quality and sustainability of water supply services, and the treatment of sewage and solid waste. In Cuba’s administrative-political division, municipalities are the key scenario where society hopes to find answers to its needs and economic, material and spiritual aspirations.
Strengthening the Water Basins Councils is one of the country’s targets in which GEF CReW+ will give support. At both municipal and regional levels, the councils are concertation spaces where institutions and organizations linked to water management can address their priorities, topics for demands and offers for water projects, water protection, and culture, to plan and manage the sustainable use of the water resources in all fields.
